PERSONAL/BIO INFO
When did you get started as a barista and how?
Actually, I've always worked at this location. I started about four years ago when it was an independently owned franchise.
Who is your mentor in brewing?
Conor Johnson, Roaster Bob, and Bruce Wayne
Where would you like to be a guest barista?
Intelligentsia, Stumptown, Alterra, Mad Cap… those are just a few that come to mind. Basically I would love to go anywhere to be a guest barista, I can only imagine how incredibly educational and fun it would be! Even just working between different Dunn Bros stores when someone needs an extra hand is so exciting for me!
If you couldn’t be a barista - what would you be doing?
I honestly don't know. Probably full time roasting. At this point, it would for sure have to be involved in coffee or crime fighting.
ON BREWING
First piece of brewing equipment?
Commercially it was a two-urn Fetco, but whenI was a kid, I remember when our family got a French Press - that was huge. My dad also had a small, one-group espresso machine at some point that was one of those pump ones you can probably find at Target or wherever. I don't remember the brand.
What is your favorite shift and why?
Hmmm, that's hard to say. I really love my job! Probably mid shift because then it's not crazy busy but it's not too slow either. You can take the time to really interact with the customers.
What in-season single origin coffee are you currently enjoying?
We've recently roasted a washed Kenya AA "Karumandi," a wonderful medium-bodied cup with chocolate tones and berry to finish it out. Very rich and delicious.
What is your current favorite recipe to brew on a trifecta?
We have this Guatemala "Asobagri" FTO that I think I really naild the recipe for. It's fully balanced and beautiful. Each sip accents something different.
